| How Toastmasters works |
| |
At a typical meeting, there is ample opportunity for all
members to deliver
| Impromptu speeches |
-- |
which train your ability to think on your
feet, or |
| Prepared speeches |
-- |
which allow you to practice speech structure, vocal
variety, language (including body language) and persuasion. |
Members can also give evaluations
through which you can master feedback skills. |
| |
|
| What you will gain |
| |
 |
Enhanced communication and leadership skills. |
 |
Ability to handle nervousness when facing an audience. |
 |
Critical thinking, creativity and listening skills. |
 |
Self-confidence and self-esteem. |
 |
Growth as a person. |
 |
Bonding with fellow members. |
|
| |
|
| How you can participate |
| |
As a guest, you are most welcome
to come and observe how the typical meeting is conducted. In addition,
you will have the opportunity to mingle with our members. However,
you cannot sign up to give prepared speeches without first becoming
a member.
As a member, you will become
a more competent speaker by taking the initiative to give prepared
speeches, being an evaluator or taking on a role so as to facilitate
the meeting. As an executive committee member, you will learn
to be a leader by being one yourself. |
